Strong Majority Opposition Follows Review of Official Title and Summary; Awareness of Measure Already Near Universal Among Likely Voters
SACRAMENTO, CA — A new survey of likely voters across California finds strong majority opposition to the proposed wealth tax, with voters rejecting the measure 54% to 38% – a 16-point margin – after reviewing its official title and summary.
The survey, conducted by FM3 Research, also found awareness of the measure is already extraordinarily high. Nearly nine in ten likely voters (89%) report hearing at least some information about the proposal, including 31% who say they have heard “a great deal” about it. Among voters already aware of the measure, opposition exceeds support by a 53% to 40% margin.

FM3 Research conducted 833 online and telephone interviews among likely November 2026 California voters from June 9-14, 2026. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3.5% at the 95% confidence level.
The survey comes as a broad and diverse coalition representing healthcare providers, educators, housing advocates, labor leaders, and others continue to voice concerns about the wealth tax and its potential impacts on California’s economy and state budget.
Earlier this month, the California Medical Association (CMA), California Primary Care Association (CPCA), and California School Boards Association (CSBA) launched a new committee to oppose the wealth tax – Californians to Protect Funding for Schools, Healthcare and Public Safety – spotlighting how the measure will exacerbate revenue volatility and shortchange the state’s core priorities and services. A new digital ad, “Common” is also running statewide, outlining the devastating impacts of the “reckless wealth tax experiment” on the state’s core priorities and services.
Yesterday, leaders from Housing Action Coalition, California YIMBY, California Council for Affordable Housing, California Housing Consortium, and Housing California joined top officials from the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, California Conference of Carpenters, and Bay Area Council to announce their opposition to the wealth tax.
Other organizations that have announced opposition to the wealth tax in recent weeks include: the California Teachers Association (CTA), Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC), California Hospital Association (CHA), and Peace Officers Research Association (PORAC), and many more.
