First ad spotlights healthcare provider, educator, firefighter opposition to 40, threat to hospitals, schools, first responders
SACRAMENTO, CA — Spotlighting the extraordinary coalition opposed to Proposition 40 — including teachers, firefighters, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, Gov. Gavin Newsom, and both gubernatorial candidates, among many others — the No on 40 campaign today launched its first statewide ad, warning voters that the Wealth Tax “will cost the state $25 billion, forcing deep cuts to hospitals, schools, and first responders.”
“We want Californians to know that when they vote NO on 40, they are standing with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, teachers, firefighters, and so many others,” said Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California President & CEO Jodi Hicks.

So, here are some facts: Newsom, Becerra, and Hilton are all voting NO, calling it “sketchy policy” that will “damage” our economy.
Teachers, firefighters, and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California are also voting NO because economic studies show it will cost the state $25 billion, forcing deep cuts to hospitals, schools, and first responders.

A growing, bipartisan coalition of doctors, teachers, small business owners, community clinics, labor unions, firefighters, healthcare providers, first responders, affordable housing organizations, working families and many others strongly oppose Proposition 40. They all warn that this measure is bad for California’s budget, economy, and future.
“If Prop. 40 passes, our schools, teachers, and students lose out — it’s that simple,” said California School Boards Association CEO and Executive Director Vernon M. Billy. “We need durable, sustained solutions, not questionable, one-time experiments like Prop. 40.”
Last week, top Democrats in the California State Assembly representing communities across the state announced their opposition to Proposition 40, detailing how the measure will blow a hole in the state budget, cost California billions, shortchange schools and other priorities, and undermine emergency management. This followed recent opposition from labor, education, and public safety leaders, including the California State Council of Laborers, United Domestic Workers (UDW), California-Nevada Conference of Operating Engineers, Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), and California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA).
Other leading organizations that have come out against the measure in recent weeks include: the California Teachers Association (CTA), California Professional Firefighters (CPF), California Medical Association (CMA), California Primary Care Association (CPCA), California Hospital Association (CHA), and many more.
